The stacked containers in the field of vision are like rusty steel tombstones, casting long shadows in the bleak sky. I shouted, only the monotonous sound of cables hitting the mast and the tireless low roar of distant waves responded to me.
The outline of the dock faintly emerged in the mist, and the distance seemed within reach, but it was pulled infinitely far away by this eerie silence. The boundless loneliness did not slowly strike, but completely engulfed me in the moment I realized that I was the only living thing here.
